Yes, we do have illegal immigrants in our country. In fact, the current illegal immigrant population in the U.S. is estimated to be around 11 million. Because the United States shares a border with Mexico, logically 57% of the illegal immigrants in America are from Mexico. Other Central American countries, Canada, Europe, and Asia are the other main sources of illegal immigration. Many illegal Mexican immigrants are found in bordering states, such as Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. These illegal immigrants are drawn to our country because of America's several pull factors. Some examples of these would be America's higher standard of living, better paying jobs, and many freedoms. One way the US has decided to deal with illegal immigration from Mexico is stationing a border patrol all across the US/ Mexico border. If the government finds any illegal immigrants, they have them immediately deported.
This is the link to a map of the US and Mexico, and you can see the shared border: http://www.sigmasvs.com/images/us-mexico-map-2006.gif
I also found this nice little political cartoon. Enjoy:

Reflection: The past 2 weeks I have been buried in make-up work, since I missed about 7 or 8 days of school when I was sick. I also had to start practicing soccer again, after a long break of not playing.. so it was pretty physically challenging. With the new 6 weeks starting, I see many projects in my near future..ahh. I just feel so constantly overwhelmed. But I'm keeping an optimistic outlook, and I know it'll get better soon. But basically it just has been a race to keep up, and trying not to fall behind.

ReplyDeleteHaha this was a cute blog! You're really good at getting straight to the point. I'm sorry you missed so much school. I only missed two days and even that was hard to get caught up. Highschool is rough. I hope you're all caught up now and feeling better!
